The Australian Formula 3 Championship returns to the Queensland Raceway, just outside Brisbane this weekend, for the forth round of the 2003 season. The series was last here in 2001 when Peter Hackett set the current Formula 3 lap record time of 1:07.7191, a time that looks certain to be beaten this weekend.
Team BRM was lead by West Australian youngster Karl Reindler, UTS Geophysics Dallara F301 Spiess Opel. Reindler qualified in an impressive 5th position for both races of the forth round of the 2003 Australian Formula 3 Championship in his first visit to Queensland Raceway.
Unusually it was the first qualifying session that was the quicker session with a pole time of 1:05.7498 being set by Barton Mawer Dallara F396 Spiess Opel. Reindler's first session qualifying fastest lap was 1:07.1316 and in the second session he set a time of 1:07.7201.
Driving at his home track, Team BRM's Darren Palmer, T2 Take a Ride Dallara F301 Spiess Opel qualified in 6th place with a time of 1:07.2255. Palmer will start alongside his Team BRM stable mate, Reindler for the first of tomorrow's two races. The second session was disappointing one for Palmer setting a time of 1:08.5820 and qualifying in 9th position
Matt Fitzgerald, Inmotion Technologies Dallara F301 Spiess Opel, had a difficult day at his first visit to the Queensland Raceway. Fitzgerald qualified in 8th position for the first race after he set a time of 1:07.8126, just ahead of current championship leader James Cressey, Dallara F301 Spiess Opel. In the second race tomorrow Fitzgerald will start from 7th position setting a time of 1:08.1765.
Team BRM believes that all three cars have a good race package and set up for tomorrow's two races and are looking forward to highly competitive races tomorrow.
