GU-RACING TEAM with terrible weekend in Spain!
With out any success was the trip to Barcelona for the GU-RACING TEAM. The weekend started with nice places in the free practise for Jens Hoing - P3 und Max Wissel - P4. But finally the results were not like expected for the German Team. In Spain raced the GU-RACING drivers Max Wissel (D), Carlos Gaitan (COL) and Jens Hoing (D).
Race 1
The Qualifying for the Saturday race went different on the beautiful track for the GU-RACING drivers: Wissel could be glad about his fourth starting- position. Jens Hoing reached only place 19 after a technical problem a flew-out in the Qualifying - Carlos Gaitan was on starting-position 21.
Heavy rain surprised the drivers before the start, so all drivers went with rain-tyres into the race about 17 laps. Max Wissel didn't reach a good start, but he could improve back to position 4 after the first corners. The German came back as third from lap 1. The race was - how to say, with a normal speed again - for Jens Hoing. He was on 13 after the first lap, Carlos Gaitan on place 18. The Barcelona-track became dry more and more during the race when Max Wissel had to stop his race: It was lap 6 when another driver tried to overtake him at the end of the straight.
With it the other driver touched the Formula BMW of Max and the 17-years old flew into the grass. "What a disappointing end. Our cars where the fastest again in the rain - like at my victory in Zandvoort."
But also Jens Hoing didn't have luck after being on P10 at the race-middle. The Berlin had a collision and he spooned. After it he reached some drivers again, but the race wasn't good for more than place 12 to the finish. Also Carlos Gaitan showed a good finish when the rain became more again now: The Colombian could be happy when he improved to place 14 finally.
Race 2
The view to the Sunday-race were not so nice for the GU-RACING drivers: Max Wissel started from place 8, Jens Hoing and Carlos Gaitan chaired one row - only P19 and 20 in the grid.
Frustrating was still the beginning of the race for all three GU-RACING drivers. Max Wissel felt back to P10 at the first corners, Carlos Gaitan couldn't improve a lot - he was on 18 after the first lap, and for Jens Hoing came the out nor at the fist lap. Hoing wanted to turn into a right- corner when another driver drove into his Formula BMW with a completely senseless action: "This weekend was an only disaster as well, like both before. So if I didn't have a problem with my car - there will be another driver who shot me out. I feel so bad about it at the moment", said Hoing about his weekend in Spain.
But the race was also not lucky for the other GU-RACING drivers. Carlos Gaitan did a mistake at breaking before the chicane. He spooned with it and slides into another Formula BMW what means the out also for the second GU- RACING driver. Max Wissel was fighting with a group where he couldn't fly away at this time. After a lot of touching with his competitors the German finished on P9 finally when he crossed the finish-line.
Teammanager Gunther Unterreitmeier: "I am not glad about the Saturday-race especially for Max and Jens. Our cars would have been good for top-places without any problems. So regarding the Sunday-race I really haven't got any words at this moment. Nevertheless I hope for motivation of our drivers in three weeks, our set-up will be perfect in Hockenheim. I want to celebrate a success there. This weekend will be the finale of FORMULA EUROPA by Liqui Moly in Salzburg/Austria for our GU-RACING juniors."
