Sixth place for Nick de Bruijn at Brno
Brno, 05 June 2005 -- Nick de Bruijn has finished today's tenth round of the 2005 Formula BMW ADAC Championship in a strong sixth position. In yesterday's first race at the circuit of Brno in the Czech Republic, De Bruijn finished at a ninth place. With this result the Dutchman is still one of the candidates to win this years rookie championship. In the Rookie Cup standings the inhabitant of Vlaardingen, is currently in fourth position with 77 points.
As a class for young and upcoming talented drivers, the Formula BMW ADAC proved to be a passport to success over the last couple of years. Formula One (test)drivers among whom Ralf Schumacher, Christian Klien, Timo Glock and most recently also Nico Rosberg can all decline. As all races are organised as a supporting programme of both the Formula One World Championship and the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) broad media coverage is assured. The use of identical cars, engines, tyres, and fuel for all competitors make sure that the driver is the sole factor for success in this championship.
QUALIFYING
Running in the midfield the 18-year old driver tried to set fast lap
times on Friday afternoon qualification sessions. The Josef Kaufmann
Racing driver had to settle with eleventh place in the end. In the final
session De Bruijn climbs into the top six and starts Sunday's second
race in sixth place.
RACE 01 + 02
In the first race on Saturday afternoon De Bruijn had a quick start and
overtook one driver in the beginning of the race. During the race the
current European Formula A kartchampion had a lot of strong fights with
other young drivers on the 5.403 kilometre long circuit. At the end of
the race over ten laps De Bruijn already won one position and ended this
race with a ninth position. A mature performance in race two where he
started at sixth position he brought his car to a solid sixth place.
NICK DE BRUIJN: "I learned a lot of technical aspects about the Formula BMW car and also from this exciting circuit with a lot of high speed corners. It was the first time I drove on this circuit with is comparable to Spa-Francorchamps. After my misfortune at the Nurburgring one week ago, I am happy with the results of this weekend. Yesterday I brought my car home at ninth position. After the race we changed the set-up of the car for the second race. In the last race I had a great start and managed to get in the top six. Luckily I could defend my place so I have a good position in the Rookie Cup!"
