Caldarelli scores double podium finish, clinches third place in standings
Andrea Caldarelli continued his impressive season start in the Formula Renault Eurocup round at Silverstone. The Italian, part of the Toyota Drivers Program, took two podium finishes after starting from the front row, and clinched the third place in standings. Running for SG Formula, Caldarelli completed a positive set-up work in the British weekend, after some initial struggles on Thursday and Friday. Thanks to the good set-up found for qua- lifying, Andrea clocked the third best laptime of the Super Pole session, after leading his group in qualifying. In the aftermath, stewards decide to exclude the car driven by Dean Smith, allo- wing Caldarelli to move back to front row. On Race 1, he continued to run strong despite not having the same pace of leader Valtteri Bottas, and successfully defended himself from the attacks of Roberto Mehri. In the second race, Caldarelli was passed by team-mate Daniel Ricciardo, but kept cool despite a visibly slower racecar. In that conditions, a double podium finish is a further example of a mature approach to the sport and its difficulties. The F.Renault Eurocup will be back in action on the 6th of July at Budapest. Andrea Caldarelli will be also competing in the West European Cup at Valencia, on June 22.
