Phil Broad with great result at Silverstone
Last weekend the Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup moved onto Silverstone, in support of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Cr Championship.
Bedford's Phil Broad buoyed up after his strong weekend at Snetterton, including a 3rd place podium finish, was keen to get back on track.
Saturday morning started off dull and wet, but quickly dried out and the sun came out later in the day. With only 1 20 minute qualifying session setup was important to get a good place on the grid and Broad was happy with 6th place.
Having qualified 6th and finishing 5th in race 1, the weekend proved his most successful yet. Even the weather was on our side, staying dry throughout. The car was awesome, never missing a beat all weekend. The first race was tough as Mark Davies didn't let him relax most of the race but he managed to hold him off to take the flag in 5th place.
As Broad commented later "What a weekend? I managed to go one better at Silverstone by stepping onto the 2nd step of the podium in race 2, to share the spoils with fellow Century Motorsports team-mate, Benji Hetherington. "
In race 2 having jumped from 5th to 2nd by lap 2, the safety car was deployed un-doing all the hard work gapping the field behind. However team mate Benji Hetherington and Broad got a good re-start and never looked back until the chequered flag fell.
As a final comment Broad said "What made it all the better for me and my Dad was that we had a number of our sponsors present, who enjoyed both the racing and the weather. Again I would like to say a sincere thank you to all my sponsors, family and friends who have supported me this year."
With Broad's WTCC/Formula 2 engineering responsibilities with his job for Jonathan Palmer at Bedford Aerodrome, his next races will be at Brands Hatch later this season.
