ISC Confirms Kansas City Development Discussions
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 13, 1997) -- Officials at International Speedway Corporation (ISC) confirmed today they are exploring the feasibility of developing a multi-motorsports entertainment complex in the Kansas City, Mo., area.
ISC officials are interested in the opportunities the Kansas City area provides and are continuing discussions with local officials to further the site selection and development process.
Discussions regarding the project are in the preliminary stages. Several sites are currently being considered and no specific track, site or financial specifications have been determined.
ISC is working with the Kansas City Area Development Council to locate and investigate suitable sites within the region.
ISC is pursuing the development and/or acquisition of one or more multi-motorsports entertainment complexes in various metropolitan areas. The company previously announced on Nov. 11 that it is part of The Motorsports Alliance -- including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corp. and Mr. John Menard -- which is exploring the development of a motorsports facility in the Chicago, Ill., area.
Discussions regarding the proposed Chicago-area facility are also preliminary, but the company has announced that one of the Chicago sites being considered is a section of the DuPage Airport, located 20 miles west of downtown. A private study determined the DuPage Airport property could accommodate a 1.5-mile closed track and related parking facilities.
ISC owns or operates Daytona International Speedway, home of the Daytona 500; MRN Radio, the nation's largest independent sports radio network; and the recently opened DAYTONA USA motorsports attraction in Daytona Beach, Fla.; Darlington (S.C.) Raceway; Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway; and Tucson (Ariz.) Raceway Park. The company also owns 50 percent of Watkins Glen International in upstate New York and 12 percent of Penske Motorsports, Inc.
