Remembering Bill Salmon

</pre> We will celebrate the life of Bill Salmon for many years to come.

Bill passed away on Sunday May 5, 2002 after a battle with cancer.

Bill mentored many marshals and was a true support and friend. There will be many fond remembrances of what he did and what he taught. Whether it be "Here's to Brian Redmond's Cat ...", the kidnapping of the entire field of a Formula Vee race or a kind pat on the back to you as an individual. He was always memorable in his presence. His sense of humor never wavered no matter the circumstances.

His love of cars went beyond the track and his family of marshals. He was a docent at an automobile museum. His beloved wife Ann would feed the corner crew at the chicane or "Bus Stop" of the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. Her home baked ham and turkey was always a treat. She has been a marvelous support to Bill in his passion. At the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona Bill became affectionately anointed and named Yoda. A true term of endearment.

Bill was honored as Sports Car Club Of America Flagging and Communications Worker of the Year in 1999 as noted in this media release from SCCA:

"FLAGGING & COMMUNICATIONS
Some things get better with age - wine, music, memories. But who would have thought that after 40 years, maybe more, a corner worker would still be at it and improving. In this case, most folks thought there was nothing left to accomplish for this individual. A founder of one of the most respected groups in motorsports, mentor to hundreds, he has never stopped learning and applying new ideas to his specialty. With the respect of his peers a given, there were even nominations received from drivers and other officials to recognize BILL SALMON as the F&C Worker of the Year."

A memorial service will be held Wednesday May 8 , 2002 at 5:00 pm
