San Rafael race results

After Qualifying yesterday and the fought wins in the shor races this morning by Juan Manuel Silva (Honda Civic) and Nelson García (Ford Escort Zetec), it was almost predictable that the action was going to be good at San Rafael in he tenth round of the 2003 TC 2000 championship.

Fabián Yannantuoni got his first overall win in the category at the wheel of one of Fineschi Racing's Hondas. Silva led for quite a while, until lap 44 of 50, when his gearbox broke. At that momento, he was being chased by García, but the Ford clashed and fell down to sixth.

Yannantuoni was driving with a solid style in second place, ahead of Guillermo Ortelli, Omar Martínez, Gabriel Ponce de León and Walter Hernández, all of them trying to resist a hard charging trio formed by Christian Ledesma, Marcos Di Palma and Oscar Fineschi. These three drivers were really decided to climb on the chart, and so they did, particularly in the last part of the event and after the retirements of Ortelli and Ledesma.

That lap 44 would be crucial in the final results as Silva stopped, leaving Fabián Yannantuoni heading the pack. The young driver started in TC 2000 when he was even younger and got a couple of wins back in 2001 when he was second in the Privateers championship. Since then, he has proved to be a potential winner several times until today.

It was an amazing fight for the podium places. García's Escort was pushed a litle by Fineschi, who crossed the line second. A very good job with the Chevrolet Astra allowed Marcos Di Palma to get his first top-3 finish.

Once again, private teams were better than works ones as it happend in Salta, for example. Gabriel Ponce de León (fourth here) keeps first place in the in the point standings with 86, followed by Norberto Fontana (sixth today ) with 81 and Walter Hernández tied for third with Juan Manuel Silva (68).

Round 11 will be held at Buenos Aires on 12th October.
