Sandra Leitzinger passes away

Sondra Leitzinger, 65, died of a heart attack in her sleep Wednesday at home in State College, PA.

She was the wife of Bob Leitzinger, long-time IMSA and SCCA sports car racer, and mother of road-racing star Butch Leitzinger. Karen Kurtz Earl, who worked at Watkins Glen International, is Sondra's daughter.

Sondra was an accomplished motorsports artist, in addition to her very active motorsport schedule. She is famous for her rendering of "Driver's Meeting" and many other works.

"Sondra was one of the nicest ladies in racing that I have had the privilege to know. She was always nice to everyone at the track from the team members to the fans so stopped by," said an SCCA member. "My heart goes out to the family at their loss of an loving wife and mother."

Visitation is on Friday between 2:00 and 4:00 pm and 6:00 and 9:00 pm at:

The funeral services are set for 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Koch's Funeral Home.

The family has set up two charities in lieu of flowers.
