Matt Varsha on top in final practice session at Trois-Rivieres
August 4, 2006. Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada. Matt Varsha, from Atlanta, Georgia, posted the fastest time in today's final practice session for Round Eight of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres. Driving the #45 Racers Edge Motorsports Mazda, Varsha clocked a time of 1:03.498 around the 1.506-mile circuit to set the fastest time of the session and the day as rain interrupted the second half of the afternoon session.
"Everything has been working for us right from the start of the weekend," Varsha explained as he swept rainwater from under the racers Edge Motorsports awning, "The car was hot right off of the trailer and I love this circuit as it really suits my driving style as I enjoy the ninety-degree corners and the laps are so quick that I can get into a great rhythm. With the wall so close around the circuit I think some drivers are intimidated as a small mistake can become a big problem but I enjoy the challenge. When you add in the atmosphere and the history o the circuit I am happy to be on top for the day."
While Varsha was improving to the top spot from second fastest time in he morning championship points leader Adrian Carrio was also climbing the time sheets, setting the second fastest time of the day at 1:03.633 (84.862 MPH) in the #14 Rockford Fosgate World Speed Motorsports Mazda to climb up from fourth fastest in the morning session.
Ryan Justice, who clocked the fastest time in the morning session at 1:04.091 (84.255 MPH) in the #38 J&M Body Shops Northwest Autosport Mazda, could only muster the fourth fastest time in the second session at 1:04.211 (84.098 MPH) as Ron White was able to edge him out for the third best time in he afternoon session as he brought his #69 Fulton Valley Farms Ron White Racing Mazda home with a time of 1:04.203 (84.108 MPH) before a torrential downpour washed away the final twenty minutes of the session.
With practice complete the teams now focus on qualifying for Round Eight of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear which is scheduled to begin at 11:10 AM Eastern Daylight Time on Saturday, August 5th.
