MARCO ANDRETTI WINS POLE FOR PRO SERIES SONOMA 100 AT INFINEON RACEWAY
SONOMA, Calif. (Aug.27, 2005) Vonage driver Marco Andretti turned a fast lap of 98.307 miles per hour (1:24.2261 seconds) to edge out Bobby Wilson for the pole position during today's qualifying for the Menards Infiniti Pro Series Sonoma 100 at Infineon Raceway.
The pole was Andretti's third in just five Pro Series starts. The other two came on the street circuit in St. Petersburg, Fla., and at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. Andretti won both events.
Tomorrow's 30-lap race begins at 1:45 p.m. (EDT) and will be aired on a tape-delayed basis on Sept.1 at 3 p.m. on ESPN2.
Marco Andretti, #26 Vonage Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone:
"I had a bad first sector on my run, so I knew I had to make up for it on the back, but I put it together. I'm just lucky it worked out the way it did. We'll go into tomorrow expecting to win, but there are so many things that have to go right. We have to get through turn 1 and then we have to put together lots of consecutive fast laps. Hopefully, the Vonage car will be as fast tomorrow as it was today and be that fast all day long."
