PacWest Fontana Friday practice notes

MARIO DOMINGUEZ
- # 17 DEL VALLE CORONA TELEVISA PACWEST LIGHTS
Position: 4th Time: 39.345s Speed: 185.650mph
"We're slow on our own, which is really how we ran most of the day," said Dominguez. "It doesn't really matter where you qualify unless you are on the pole. The best thing we can try to do is set up our car to run in traffic for the race, and if we can find enough speed alone for a good qualifying run tomorrow, then that will make things a lot easier on Sunday."
DAN WHELDON
- # 1 GEMSTAR PACWEST LIGHTS
Position: 7th Time: 39.391s Speed: 185.433mph
"We ran alone, on purpose, almost all day today," said Wheldon. "Based on where we are in the championship, as far as the Rookie of the Year award is concerned, we feel that it is important to try to get the car right when running alone so we can try to get that extra point by winning the pole. Once the car is right, then it's down to the engine. We feel as though we're quick enough to go for the pole so we will continue to run alone tomorrow morning before qualifying. We did run a little in traffic this morning, so we've done both. I actually think we'll be alright."
