Chicagoland day two notes

Joliet, Ill (July 8, 2003) True Value IROC testing resumed Tuesday at Chicagoland Speedway a midst the rain showers and thunderstorms that plagued the Joliet area throughout the day.

IRL IndyCar Series champion Sam Hornish Jr. joined the World of Outlaws (WoO) champions Steve Kinser and Danny Lasoski for a rain shortened run in the afternoon.

Hornish enjoyed the brief session despite the rain saying, "Everything felt pretty good. I wish we could have kept the rain clouds away a little bit longer but I got a pretty good feel for the car. It will probably be a little bit different come race day, but I could pretty much put the car wherever I wanted to and that's a good feeling."

Kinser and Lasoski returned Tuesday after flying out from IROC practice on Monday to run a WoO race at Cedar Lake Speedway in Somerset, Wisconsin. Kinser won the Cedar Lake event, cutting down on Lasoski's point lead in the WoO series, but when it comes to IROC they're virtually teammates. "We're out here practicing every session made available to us in order prepare as best we can for the IROC race," said Lasoski. "(Steve and I) are the outlaws of the IROC series, so to speak, going up against the best in NASCAR and IndyCar Series. We'll be working together at every opportunity during the race to get to the front."

This Saturday's 67-lap, 100.05-mile race will be broadcast the same day on ESPN at 9:00 p.m. EDT, preceded by re-airs of the Daytona opener and race two from Talladega Superspeedway, all starting at 7:00 p.m. EDT.

True Value IROC practice will continue throughout the remainder of the week at Chicagoland Speedway.
