Crown Royal IROC Prep Continue at Richmond
Richmond, VA (Sept. 6, 2004) -The Crown Royal IROC team has been negotiating rain throughout Sunday and Monday at Richmond International Raceway in preparation for round-three, which will be broadcast live on Speed Channel Thursday night, Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. EST.
Crown Royal IROC test drivers, Dave Marcis, Jim and Jay Sauter managed to get through speed runs and the equalization process on all the race cars. The rest of the week will be devoted to driver practice for the series competitors.
With the on-track work over for the 12 Crown Royal cars selected for the race, the crew goes to work on race checks. The team of mechanics inspects the race cars, checking every component and every nut and bolt in preparation to do battle at the three-quarter mile battle ground oval.
Another unique IROC task began Monday -- the long and laborious task of applying the color, number and name graphics for each driver.
A team of "weekend warriors" has arrived including Randy Wittine and John Hawkins, IROC "weekend warriors" since the early 1970's. Wittine, an automotive designer has been an integral part of the look of the IROC series for over 25-years. He and Hawkins are joined by Mario Boccongelli and Seth Yost. The process of applying graphics will take the better part of three-days.
Series competitors begin arriving for driver practice Tuesday including; NASCAR driver Kurt Busch, IndyCar Series pilots; Helio Castroneves, Scott Sharp and Scott Dixon, and World of Outlaws drivers; Danny Lasoski and Steve Kinser.
