ARDC Midgets Rained Out At Dixieland

Easton, Pa. July 18, 1998 - The American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) CARQUEST Midget Series show at Dixieland Speedway in Elizabeth City, North Carolina was lost to rain on Friday night. It was reported that the area around the racetrack received 6 to 8 inches of rain between Thursday night and Friday morning. This rainout resulted in the third ARDC race lost to weather in the 1998 racing season. The race scheduled at Southampton Speedway in Capron, Virginia on June 26 was canceled because Southampton changed their race night from Friday to Saturday. It was not possible to reschedule that race this year.

The ARDC CARQUEST Midgets return to Flemington Speedway on Saturday, July 25 for their third appearance of 1998. The last race at Flemington on June 20 was the ARDC/NEMA Mini-Indy won by NEMA driver, Russ Stoehr. That race drew 45 cars. After the Flemington race on Saturday July 25, ARDC returns to Evergreen Raceway in St. John's Pa. on Saturday August 1, for the first time since 1992.

ARDC is half way through the '98 season and there has not been a repeat winner yet. The split of dirt and asphalt tracks on the schedule may contribute to the parity in ARDC competition. Ed Stimely Jr. of McVeytown, Pa. is the defending ARDC CARQUEST Midget Series Champion and also currently leads the point standing this year. Stimely's car owner, Harold Yetter, of Sciota, Pa is at the top of the car owner point standings. Mark Wakefoose of Hopatcong, New Jersey is the highest rookie in the points race in fifth position and Mike Lapp of Slatington, Pa. is the leader in the Iron Block points. Lapp is also tenth in the overall ARDC points race.
