Mosport summar, points

LONDON, ON - The highly competitive nature of the 2001 Castrol Super Series was in evidence again this past weekend at Mosport Int'l Raceway. Veteran racer DJ Kennington's victory on Sunday afternoon continued the streak of not having a repeat winner so far in the chase for the Castrol Cup. One-third of the way through the 12-race schedule, Kerry Micks, Al Turner, Mark Dilley, and now, DJ Kennington, have managed to capture checkered flags.

As Kennington put it, in the post-race driver's interview, "This series is so tough to win on, and we've been so close the last while." The victory, by the driver of the Castrol Syntec Intrepid, was not unexpected. Following a fourth-place run in the season opener at Delaware, the St. Thomas, ON racer followed it up with second-place showings in each of the series' next two races; at Peterborough Speedway and on the Mosport Speedway oval.

Kennington was somewhat frustrated at his inability to win those races, but was heartened that he was collecting top finishes and fighting his way back up the points ladder after his Delaware points were stripped for a technical infraction.

"I didn't know what I had to do to win one of these things. The people around me told me to 'just keep doing what you're doing' and I guess they were right. We're coming back. It really hurt us with the clutch DQ at Delaware. We really didn't mean to do what we did and it's heartbreaking that it happened, because if it hadn't, we'd be so far ahead [in the points] it wouldn't be funny. But we're going to keep going and this Castrol Intrepid isn't done winning yet," continued Kennington, who sits 14th in the points after four events.
