Moore's No. 15 returns with Alexander Shawn A. Akers
CONCORD, N.C. (May 24, 1998) Saying he's "been out of the game for way too long," Bud Moore officially announced Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway that he'll be returning to the NASCAR Winston Cup Series later this season with his familiar No. 15 Ford and sponsored by Rescue Engine Formula.
Bud Moore Engineering, which hasn't fielded a car competitively in the series since the end of the 1996 season, will make its return at the Pepsi 400 on July 4 with driver Blaise Alexander, the first of a limited number of races the team will run for the remainder of 1998.
"We've really been tired of sitting at home on Sunday and watching the other guys run," Moore said. "I've been in the sport for 50 years, and being away from the competition for as long as we have has been one of the hardest things I've ever had to face in my life. I'm really looking forward to getting back to Daytona. We really hope to have a competitive effort when we get there.
"We are behind on a few things right now, but we've got six new Tauruses built and we're ready to test and then to race. It's going to be great when we actually get back to the race track and get around everything."
Alexander, a rookie on the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division circuit this season
