Morgan-McClure Motorsports qualifies fifth at home track
Qualifying at Bristol Motor Speedway concluded with Morgan-McClure Motorsports gaining a 5th place starting spot in the Food City 500. Mike Skinner, driver of the No. 4 KODAK MAX Film Monte Carlo, turned in the eighth top-10 starting position in 11 qualifying attempts at the .533 mile track.
Bristol Motor Speedway, considered the home track for the Abingdon, Va.-based team, is the site of the team's first victory in 1990 with retired driver Ernie Irvan. The best finish for the Susanville, Calif.-native at Bristol is 7th on August 22, 1998. Skinner and the No. 4 crew had their best finish of 20th in the 2002 season last week in Darlington.
Mike Skinner Quotes:
"We seem to run the same as we run in practice. We come real close to it. We are improving. We just keep in working on it.
"We tested good here. This car is better in race trim than the one we practiced here.
"I think being in the top-10 is awesome. This place and Martinsville and Richmond are good tracks for me. I like the short tracks. The banking makes it a good track for us to race on.
"We should be able to stay in the hunt all day on Sunday and get this Kodak MAX Film Monte Carlo a good finish."
