Dale Earnhardt Inc. name Jeff Green as interim driver
Mooresville, NC - Dale Earnhardt Inc. announced today that NASCAR veteran Jeff Green will take over the driving duties of the No. 1 Pennzoil Chevrolet starting with the Winston Open at Lowe's Motor Speed on May 18th. Green will drive the No. 1 Pennzoil Chevrolet on an interim basis.
Green drove for DEI in its first full season on the NASCAR Busch Series in 1995 when seven-time NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Dale Earnhardt retired from the Busch Series after clinching his seventh Winston Cup championship in 1994.
Green left the organization in1997, but he continued to compete in the NASCAR Busch Series where he won 16 races including winning the 2000 NASCAR Busch series championship. His most recent accomplishments have been driving in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series for veteran car owner Richard Childress.
"It's amazing how much can change in 48 hours," stated Jeff Green. "DEI is a great organization, I was here when they first started to grow and to come back now and see what they've accomplished is tremendous. I'm looking forward to the opportunity that Teresa has given me and hope to bring some positive results to this team."
"We've had some bright spots with Steve and the Pennzoil team, but our loyalty to each other was to hard to overcome, however we are not where we need or expect to be at this point. We feel Jeff can bring a fresh perspective to this team, he's worked with our teams in the past and knows that we're dedicated to winning. I'm optimistic about the rest of the season," stated Teresa Earnhardt.
