2 RUSTY WALLACE
Rusty is taking the occasion of The Winston to show off a new
Harley-Davidson paint scheme...instead of the customary blue colors
associated with Miller Lite, Rusty will sport a black and silver Taurus for
this weekend... this will mark Rusty's 15th start in The Winston with his
only victory coming in 1989...he'll have a brand new car to try out Saturday
night...PC-34 represents the 34th car built by the Penske South
organization.
6 MARK MARTIN
Maybe the third time will be the charm for Mark Martin...the last two years
he and his race team have come to Charlotte with the plan of running the
same car both weekends... unfortunately, Martin has been caught up in
accidents each of the last two years in The Winston and has had to go with a
different car in the 600...this year he will try it again with a brand new
car (JR-91)...Martin did not test at Lowe's last week, but the last time he
brought out a new car was two weeks ago at Richmond and he ended up sitting
on the pole.
12 JEREMY MAYFIELD
Like Martin, Mayfield will have a brand new car to try out this
weekend...car #20 had not seen a race track until hitting the Lowe's track
for Friday practice at 2 p.m....the 12 team plans on running this car again
next weekend, if it runs well and gets through The Winston without major
problems.
17 MATT KENSETH
Kenseth will have car #5 this weekend, the same car he debuted with last
year in the Brickyard 400...it's seen the track once so far in 2001 with
that coming at Darlington in March...qualified 30th for that event and
finished 19th...this will mark Kenseth's debut in The Winston after
qualifying for the event by winning last year's Coca-Cola 600.
21 ELLIOTT SADLER
Nobody may be looking forward to The Winston more than Sadler, who talked
about winning the all-star event only minutes after his first NWC triumph at
Bristol earlier this year... Sadler will pilot this particular Taurus for
the first time in 2001, but it competed a handful of times last season...ran
in both Darlington events, qualifying 6th and finishing 12th in the
fall...was 18th in the Labor Day weekend race.
88 DALE JARRETT
Jarrett is still looking for his first win in The Winston and to show how
much emphasis he is putting on this weekend's event, he was one of only two
Ford NWC teams that tested here last week...has not raced this car in 2001,
but it's the same piece he ran in the 2000 season at Atlanta...sat on the
pole for that race (the Cracker Barrel 500), but suffered engine problems
and ended up 36th.
99 JEFF BURTON
This will be the second time in 2001 Burton gets behind the wheel of this
Taurus...the first time came at Atlanta in March when he finished
30th...prior to that, he raced the car four times in 2000...posted three
top-10 finishes in those events, which included a 6th-place showing here at
Charlotte in October...ran 2nd in the Southern 500 at Darlington and 6th in
the Brickyard 400 last August with this car.
