Two of the most exciting races on the NASCAR Winston Cup Series schedule lived up to their billing once again this year. With all eyes on "The World Center of Racing," two Daytona legends triumphed in the Gatorade 125-Mile Qualifying Races to set the field for Sunday's 40th Daytona 500.

Sterling Marlin held off Dale Jarrett to take the checkered flag in the first qualifying event. Marlin, in the No. 40 Coors Light Chevrolet, will start third in Sunday's race. Defending Daytona 500 champion Jeff Gordon grabbed the 15th position -- the final "transfer" spot -- automatically landing him 29th on the grid.

In the second race, Dale Earnhardt kept Michael Waltrip at bay in a run to the finish. Earnhardt scored his 30th career victory at Daytona International Speedway, and his ninth straight win in the Gatorade 125-Mile Qualifying races. Robert Pressley held on to 14th place, the final guaranteed entry spot from the qualifier, and will start 30th on Sunday.
