Team grabs second Checkers0x00ae/Rally's0x00ae Double Drive-Thru Challenge
win
Jimmie Johnson's over-the-wall crew claimed its second Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Challenge win of the season by spending the least amount of time on pit road during Sunday's Nextel Cup event.
The No. 48 Lowe's team visited New Hampshire International Speedway's pit lane for only 175.323 seconds and will be awarded $11,000 by Checkers/Rally's for winning the weekly competition.
"We had several different calls in the pits at New Hampshire and the guys stepped up every time," said Johnson. "That's what you have to do to win races and have good finishes. It's a total team effort."
The No. 48 crew, out of the Hendrick Motorsports stable, consists of: Chris Anderson (jackman), Art Simmons (front-tire carrier), Mike Trower (front-tire changer), Ron Malec (rear-tire carrier), Tim Ladyga (rear-tire changer), Rich Gutierrez (gasman), Mike Knauer (catch can) and Sean Kerlin (eighth-man). The team's pit crew coach is Matt Clark.
Mark Martin's/Regan Smith's No. 01 crew leads the season-long Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Challenge standings with four wins. Jeff Gordon's and Denny Hamlin's crews are second with three wins each. An $111,150 prize will be presented to the pit crew team with the most wins at the completion of the 36-race Nextel Cup schedule.
To win the Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Challenge, teams are required to finish on the lead lap while spending the least amount of time on pit road. Checkers/Rally's is in its third season as title sponsor for the Pit Crew Challenge.
