Marcis, Earnhardt, B. Smith notes

A reliable source tells me that:

Realtree will announce this week their sponsorship of the Dave Marcis car for the rest of the season. They were apparently holding off until the new transporter arrived. Realtree has gotten a great deal of mail from fans asking them to sponsor Marcis for the entire year.Marcis did not qualify for the Atlanta race. He said they just could not get the spring/shock combination right. It is hard after losing his crew chief and two other team members to the Sabates organization.

Also it seems that the Larry McReynolds switch from Thunderbirds to Monte Carlos has caused some problems. According the McReynolds the roll center of the Monte Carlo is different, upsetting his spring/shock choices. They are building some new cars with a different roll center.

The same reliable source said they had talked to Bruton Smith.

When asked if there were any plans to put an oval track at Somona, Smith said, "We have an oval designed for Sonoma." However, he did not say if he planned to build it.

Also Smith said that he would reopen North Wilkesboro if he can get full control. He will not make any captial improvements until that time.
