Biffle's Pit Crew Grabs Pocono Win; Sadler's Crew Takes Over Points Lead
Greg Biffle's pit crew won the McDonald's Drive-Thru Pit Championship fueled by POWERade in Sunday's (Aug. 1) Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway. It was the second time this season that Biffle's No. 16 crew claimed the $20,000 first-place prize.
In the season standings and the chase for the $200,000 McDonald's/POWERade champion's bonus, Elliott Sadler's crew took over the lead following Pocono with 724 points, three more than Dale Earnhardt's crew. Tony Stewart's crew remains third with 691 points.
Sadler's crew earned 40 points in Pocono with a fourth-place finish while Earnhardt's crew picked up 31 points with a 13th-place finish.
Biffle's National Guard Ford spent the least amount of time on Pocono's pit road -- 339.00 seconds. Casey Mears' Target Dodge came in second with a time of 365.00. Third was Robbie Gordon's Cingular Chevrolet at 375.00.
"I feel like these guys have been performing to this quality all year," said crew chief Doug Richert. "As a team we were able to capitalize on their performance in Pocono and finish where we've been running all season. It was motivating for the crew because it was the first time they really got to follow through and show the kind of pit stops they've been giving us all year."
Biffle said, "That's awesome that they won the pit crew challenge last weekend. We had a good run and that just adds to the momentum going into Indy."
Biffle's over-the-wall crew consists of Adam Emmert (front-tire changer), Jeff Silver (front-tire carrier), Mike Hillman (rear-tire changer), TJ Hamilton (rear-tire carrier), Jeff Merkel (jackman), Donnie Ratledge (gasman), John Eicher (catch can).
