Pontiac Racing chassis notes, Bristol

Johnny Benson is riding a string of four straight top seven finishes in 2001 and is coming off back-to-back sevenths at Atlanta and Darlington. The chassis under this week's Valvoline Grand Prix last raced to an 11th place finish at North Carolina Speedway in November of 2000.

Conseco Grand Prix driver Ron Hornaday has won in everything he's ever sat in at Bristol Motor Speedway, and he's hoping to continue that trend in his rookie Winston Cup season. This weekend he is driving the chassis the competed here twice in 2000 - once with driver Dick Trickle (finished 27th) and once with driver Rick Mast (finished 29th).

Interstate Batteries Grand Prix driver Bobby Labonte tested here for two days prior to the race at Darlington and is hoping to turn it into a career-best Bristol run this weekend. Labonte finished sixth here last spring, which equaled his best run ever at Bristol. This chassis last competed at Darlington in September of 2000 when Labonte drove it to a rain-shortened victory in the Southern 500.

Home Depot Grand Prix driver Tony Stewart dominated Dover in 2000 with this chassis, and also grabbed a second with it in the night race at Bristol. In eight starts over the past two seasons with this chassis, Stewart has two wins, six top fives and has led 1,042 of a possible 3,600 laps (29 percent).

Kenny Wallace is running the same chassis under his No. 27 Pontiac that competed last week at Darlington Raceway, where he ended the 400-miler in the 31st position. Wallace, who is 39th in the point standings, is a former pole winner here at Bristol (8/23/97).

M&M's Grand Prix driver Ken Schrader remained 10th in the NASCAR Winston Cup point standings after his 13th place finish at Darlington last week. Schrader, who is running the chassis that finished 32nd at Homestead last year, is only 30 points out of fifth place in the standings.
