Rain postpones Texas race

Fort Worth (April 7) -- As we reported earlier the rains in Texas have been playing havoc at Texas Motor Speedway since yesterday when the Busch race started after a 3+ hour delay and then was shortened when the rain returned to the track.

Today has been no different and NASCAR officials have announced that the Winston Cup race has been postponed for today. They will try again Monday at 11 am CDT.

EARLIER REPORT:

Fort Worth, TX -- Rain continues to fall at the Texas Motor Speedway this Sunday morning. The start of the Samsung/RadioShack 500 is unlikely to take place at the scheduled 12:30 pm (CDT) time. The track cannot be dried in time, even if the rain were to stop in the next few minutes.

Eddie Gossage, President of the Speedway, announced that it needs to stop raining by 5:30 pm CDT in order for the race to be run today. That would give a 7 pm start time. If it does not stop by then, the race will be rescheduled for 11 am Monday morning.

There is no indication the rain is likely to stop soon.

Gossage had earlier said there were "no time limits" on getting the race in today. "The fans paid to see a race on Sunday," and he would do everything he could to make sure they got one.
