Terry Labtonte will run Loudon

Despite broken leg, Labonte will drive Sunday

HARRISBURG, N.C. (July 6, 2000) Terry Labonte, who wrecked on lap 82 of last Saturday night's Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway, suffered a broken tibia (bone below the knee) and bruised ribs in the incident. Labonte, however, will compete in this weekend's thatlook.com 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway, according to a brief on Hendrick Motorsports' web site Thursday afternoon.

According to the news release, Labonte was treated and released from Halifax Medical Center shortly after midnight Saturday. Labonte was briefly knocked unconscious after slamming into the wall on the driver side, the result of a run-in with Michael Waltrip.

A CAT scan was given and came back negative. Thus, Labonte was cleared by doctors and will race Sunday, marking his 653rd consecutive NASCAR Winston Cup Series start.

Although Labonte is planning on completing the entire race, Hendrick driver Jack Sprague, who mans the No. 24 GMAC Financial Services Chevrolet in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, will stand by for precautionary reasons.
