Doug George Pulls Double Duty

(St. Louis, Missouri) May 6 -- Every weekend fans watch Winston Cup celebrities driving Bush Series cars, or a Winston West driver attempting to qualify for a Truck event. How often does a NASCAR fan get to see a driver pilot one truck and crew chief another? Well, NASCAR fans visiting Gateway International Raceway this weekend for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race will witness such a feat by Doug George, driver of the No. 86 RC Cola Dodge and crew chief for the No. 12 Hot Wheels Dodge driven by Carlos Contreras.

David H' odson, sole owner of Impact Motorsports consisting of three truck teams, appointed Doug George driver of the No. 86 on Friday, May 5th in conjunction with the departure of Mike Cope. No formal release was announced by Hodson or by primary sponsor, Royal Crown Cola regarding Cope's exit, but both fully support and look forward to George's superman-slated weekend.

"We (RC Cola and Impact Motorsports) are studying the process of Cope's departure and of the performance of the team this weekend," Hodson commented. "We don't plan on missing a beat because of a last minute change. All three of the Impact teams are supporting, and outright motivating Doug in both roles this weekend. This is not an engraved change, but the right move for this weekend's event."

"Wow!" laughed George. "It has already been a busy weekend and we haven't even qualified yet. Actually, I am very relaxed when I am behind the wheel. The truck is pretty good, a little tight getting into the corners, but all-in-all I think we'll be fine for both qualifying and the race." "If George can be as quick in the RC Cola Dodge as he is running back and forth between duties, he just might break the race record," said Jim Verret, director of Marketing for Royal Crown Cola. "We are glad to have Doug sporting the RC Cola colors and taking on the task of wearing several different hats."
