Gilliland Comments on New Grand National Rules
STATESVILLE, NC -- On Tuesday NASCAR announced some new rules for the Grand National Division, which includes the East and West Series. The combination of the spec engine, composite body and the option of running either 105- or 110-inch wheel bases, comprise a wide variety of cost-saving initiatives for the Grand National Division, which will serve as a developmental series for up-and-coming future stars of NASCAR.
The sanctioning organization also plans to reduce its minimum driving age to 16 for the Grand National and Modified tours beginning in 2007.
David Gilliland is a former West Series competitor.
What do you think of these new rules? They were obviously made with the racer in mind.
"Racing is expensive. Hopefully these rules will allow more people to be able to afford to go racing."
"More and more eyes are opening up to West Coast racing. These steps by NASCAR should ensure that West Coast guys will continue to have a future in big-time stock car racing."
- David Gilliland
