CAPRON, Va. (Oct. 11) -- The Third Annual OktoberFAST 450 Weekend presented by Bailey's got off to a soggy start at Southampton Motor Speedway on Friday as rain washed out scheduled practice rounds According to SMS General Manager Brad Skelding, pre-practice inspections were completed on Friday and cars will be ready to hit the track when weather permits on Saturday Skelding noted that, while track officials will be keeping a close eye on the weather radar, the schedule for the weekend has plenty of built-in flexibility and the event should proceed without the need for a great deal of juggling of the lineup.

Here's a look at the OktoberFAST agenda for Saturday, Oct. 12, and Sunday, Oct. 13:

Saturday, Oct. 12 -- Qualifying Day presented by Bobby's Muffler & Tire/Pennzoil. The registration booth opens at 7 a.m. to take care of any late arrivals. A mandatory drivers meetings is scheduled for 9 followed by practice from 9:30-11:30 Time trials, to lock in starting positions 1-10 for Sunday's main event, get under way at 1:15 p.m. After time trials, drivers who didn't secure one of the top 10 spots take to the track in four 35-lap qualifying heats. The top five finishers in each of the events will transfer to Sunday's big race, filling positions 11-30 on the grid At the conclusion of heat races (approximately 6 p.m.), fans are invited to stay for SMS's 2002 Awards Ceremony. After the awards are handed out, the day wraps up with a block party, featuring live music by "Phantom," presented by Rick's Rock Cafe in Franklin, Va Tickets for Saturday's activities are $10 for. adults ($5 after 6 p.m.). There is no admission charge for kids 12 and under. Meal tickets for the post-awards pig pickin' are $10 each.

Sunday, Oct. 13 -- Race Day. Pit gates open at 8:30 a.m. and front gates open at 11:30 The first of two 30-lap "Last Chance" qualifying races, get going at 1 p.m. The top two finishers from each of those events, presented by IHOP and RaceWorld.com, will transfer to the feature race, taking positions 31-34. Two provisional starters will be added to round out the 36-car field After a short break, the 2002 edition of the $15,000-to-win OktoberFAST 250 will get the green flag. Posted awards for the weekend's events top $65,000. Last place (36th) in Sunday's feature race pays $1,000 Tickets for Sunday are $25 for adults and $5 for youths (6-12). Children under 6 are admitted free.
