Pursley Captures Pole
Sets fast time after skipping final practice session
IRWINDALE, Calif. -- Greg Pursley only needed one practice session on Saturday to find the fast set-up and then win the Coors Light Pole Award in NASCAR K&N Pro Series West qualifying for the King Taco 200 at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale.
After registering the fastest time in the first practice session earlier in the day, Pursley opted to sit out the final practice. He then set the fast mark in qualifying with a lap of 18.505 seconds (97.271 mph).
It was his first pole award of the season and his third career series pole. Toyota Speedway is Pursley's home track and where he won a national championship in 2004 in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.
David Mayhew was second quickest in Saturday's qualifying, with a lap of 18.617 (96.686). He was followed by Brian Wong; Justin Johnson, making his series debut, and Blake Koch.
The green flag for the King Taco 200 is slated to wave at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
