Brainerd, Minn. (August 14, 2006)- Bob Vandergriff Jr. had an early end to a rain-delayed raceday on Sunday at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals. After nearly three hours in a hold pattern, Vandergriff came to the starting line to meet up with "Hot Rod" Fuller.
Vandergriff left the line first and quickly struck the Goodyear's as Fuller marched downtrack. The UPS Top Fueler had a front row seat as Fuller lost his engine in a huge fireball. Despite the first round loss, Vandergriff considers the weekend a success.
"We are disappointed that we smoked the tires but we had a great weekend," Vandergriff said. "Our goal for Brainerd was to find consistency in getting the car down the track. We found that success with our tune-up and hope to have our car going rounds for the remainder of the season."
Vandergriff and crew will head to Memphis Motorsports Park for next weekend's O'Rielly Mid-South Nationals, leaving Brainerd in 13th place in the NHRA POWERade championship points chase.
