BRAINERD, Minn. - SUMMIT FastNews - Special award winners from this weekend's 17th annual VisionAire NorthStar Nationals, the 15th of 22 events on the 1998 NHRA Winston Championship Series tour:
Best Appearing Car -- Steve and Janet Williams 1962 Chevrolet Corvette Super Gas entry. Driver: Steve Williams, Loma Linda, Calif.
Best Appearing Crew -- Rydin Decal / Fluke Federal Mogul Funny Car team. Driver: Marc White, Glendale Heights, Ill.
Best Engineered Car -- Gebhardts Super Comp dragster. Driver: Jacklyn Gebhardt, Jackosnville, Ill.
BIG BUD Shootout At Pomona Award ($4,000 to the No. 1 qualifier in Top Fuel) -- Cory McClenathan, Anaheim, Calif., McDonalds Dragster, 4.598 seconds, 311.63 mph.
BIG BUD Shootout At Indy Award ($4,000 to the No. 1 qualifier in Funny Car) -- Cruz Pedregon, Camarillo, Calif., Interstate Batteries/Hot Rod Magazine Pontiac Firebird, 4.937 seconds, 312.39 mph.
NHRA Pro Stock Challenge Award ($3,000 to the No. 1 qualifier in Pro Stock) -- Jim Yates, Alexandria, Va., Splitfire Pontiac Firebird, 7.023 seconds, 195.39 mph.
NHRA Pro Bike Dash Award ($1,000 to the No. 1 qualifier in Pro Stock Motorcycle) -- John Smith, Minneapolis, Anoka-Ramsey Suzuki GSXR, 7.469 seconds, 185.07 mph.
Craftsman Crew Chief Of The Race Awards ($1,000 to the Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock crew chiefs of the race) -- Ken Veney for the Team Mopar Top Fuel dragster piloted Mike Dunn. Ronnie Swearingen for the MATCO Tools Funny Car driven by Dean Skuza. Kenny Lee for the Dick Sherman Racing Pro Stock Pontiac Firebird driven by Mark Osborne.
