TONY PEDREGON AND THE Q POWER RACE TEAM QUALIFY 2ND, BUT SUFFER TOUGH FIRST ROUND LOSS IN BRAINERD
BRAINERD, Minn. (August 14, 2006) -- Despite qualifying second at the NHRA Nationals this past weekend at Brainerd (MN) Int'l Raceway, Tony Pedregon and his Q Power Race Team lost in the first round of the Nitro Funny Car division. The second-place qualifying effort allowed Pedregon to retain third place in the 2006 point standings.
"We are encouraged we had a car that qualified well (2nd) - we had some of the quickest runs each session in qualifying and maintained third in the point standings," Pedregon explained. "It's a shame the Q Power team encountered a part failure which took power away in the first round, which is the reason the car slowed down by a tenth of a second. We ran a 4.85 instead of a 4.75 that would have put us easily into the second round. We'll have to go back through all of our inventory to make sure this doesn't happen again. We are still in contention for the championship and looking forward to going rounds in Memphis."
