Bristol: Cruz Pedregon Friday summary

Bristol, Tenn., April 30, 2004 -- After two rounds of qualifying for the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway in Bristol, Tennessee, former Funny Car champion Cruz Pedregon sits second.

Pedregon powered the Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet Monte Carlo to an elapsed time of 4.815 seconds at 320.66 mph in the final qualifying session of the day.

"Wes (Cerny) told me it was going to be good and to hang on," said Pedregon. "When we have a night session like we did today, you want to take advantage of the weather and track conditions and go after the number one position. We were there until the final pair, but I'll take second."

Two more rounds of qualifying are scheduled for Saturday, May, 1 at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Final eliminations are slated for Sunday, May 2, at 11:00 a.m.

Qualifying coverage can be seen on ESPN2 from 7:30 p.m. -- 9:00 p.m. (ET) on May 1st. Final Eliminations will be aired from 7:00 p.m. -- 10:00 p.m. (ET) on ESPN2 on May 2nd.
