KJ Adapts Quickly to New Bristol Surface, Sits Third on Friday

Entering the second qualifying session at the O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals, Kurt Johnson found himself outside of the top sixteen necessary to qualify. With the weather forecast calling for rain on Saturday, Johnson knew Friday's session might be his only opportunity to make Sunday's field. KJ quickly erased any doubts, however, as his ACDelco Cavalier posted one of the quickest times of the session at 6.841 seconds, with a top speed of 201.13 mph, placing them third entering Saturday's action.

"We didn't test here before the race, so we really didn't know what to expect. The surface was actually deceiving, looking better than it actually was. I spoke to (fellow Pro Stock competitor) Allen Johnson earlier and he said it took an unusual set-up to run here. Therefore, we made some major adjustments to the clutch and chassis set-ups for the evening session, trying to get it hooked up.

"The best way to put it is that we got away with it tonight, and even though it's still not running as well as it should, I think we can tune it from this point, so we'll keep tweaking our ACDelco Cavalier and see if we can pick it up even further."
