BRISTOL, Tenn. (May 2, 2004) -- Due to persistent rain showers in the Tri Cities-area, NHRA officials were forced to postpone Sunday's final eliminations for the O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway. Final eliminations will begin at 10 a.m. (ET) on Monday, May 3.
Ron Capps, who earned the victory at Bristol Dragway in 2001, will battle No. 6 qualifier Gary Densham in the opening round of Funny Car eliminations. Capps powered his Skoal RacingSM Chevy Monte Carlo to the No. 11 position with an E.T. of 4.870 seconds.
Skoal Racing Funny Car driver Tommy Johnson Jr. powered his Mike Green-tuned flopper to the No. 8 qualifying spot with a 4.856-second effort. He'll match-up against No. 9 qualifier Gary Scelzi in round one.
Two-time defending NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon qualified his Miller Lite dragster in the No. 8 position at Bristol Dragway with an elapsed time of 4.602 seconds. Dixon, who won at Thunder Valley in 2002, will face No. 9 qualifier Doug Herbert in round one of Top Fuel.
