Buddy Perkinson Atlanta preview
Atlanta Dragway
PERKINSON RETURNS, READY FOR ATLANTA
COMMERCE, Ga. - Following a very brief period of time off from NHRA, Buddy Perkinson is back and will continue racing the Cunningham Motorsports Ford Mustang at Atlanta Dragway this weekend.
Even though Perkinson did not race the Ford Pro Stock at NHRA's last event in Houston, he attended the race anyway, prepared to support fellow Ford racers, continue to represent Cunningham Motorsports and stay in tune with the racing fans.
The 31st annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals occupies the 6th of 22 events on the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing series tour this year.
Perkinson and the Cunningham team began the season strong, qualifying for the first two events of the year, but have struggled for the most recent few. The teams believes their "hunt for horsepower" is coming to a close. Perkinson and Cunningham Motorsports have been testing a few times since Charlotte, and believe they have found the power needed to be competitive this weekend.
"At this point, I’m happy to say, it’s really looking good for us. We believe we found more power and should be back to where we were at the start of the season, if not better. Last Friday we did some testing at Jim's (Cunningham) track, Capitol Raceway. The track and conditions weren't great, but we made some adjustments to the race car that we had wanted to try for some time now and we were very happy with the results, said Perkinson.
"This past Tuesday I was back in the Pro Stocker in Maryland where we tested to try and get everything just right for Atlanta this coming weekend. At first, we struggled with the track conditions and getting the car to leave the starting line, but everyone else was right there with us! The air was really bad, but we made the changes we needed to and went from A to B just like that. After we made it down the track, it was time to fine tune some things. Like I mentioned earlier, we’re been happy with what we’ve been getting from the car so we’re all very excited to get back out the on the track this weekend in Atlanta.
The 19-year-old from Prince George, Va. has also begun gearing up for the 2011 K&N Horsepower Challenge. The event consists of the 7 top Pro Stock racers in points, plus a wild card entry that is determined by fans.
