ARAGONA SCORES FOURTH CONSECUTIVE COMP WIN AT CECIL COUNTY DRAGWAY
RISING SUN, Md. -- Racing is complete at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series from Cecil County Dragway. In the final round of Comp Eliminator, Frank Aragona Jr., of Old Bridge , N.J. , reigned victorious. In the Super Stock class, Gene Daugherty, from Salem , Va. , took home the hardware.
Aragona got the win over Saddle River , N.J. , resident Gerry Russo who was unable to make the call in the final, giving Aragona a bye to his fourth straight division win. Daugherty's win came at the expense of Ron Morehead, Newburgh , N.Y.
The Stock Eliminator category was narrowed down to a battle of New Yorkers where Peter Biondo, of Maspeth, faced off against Michael Iacono, from Wading River . Biondo went on to take victory in his '69 Camaro over Iacono who represented the division at this years Jegs Allstars event in June.
Super Comp racer Scott Mackie, of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., took home the trophy over North East, Md. , racer Lou Roark. Also victorious Super Gas driver Tom Stalba of Hammonton, N.J., who drove the wheels off of his '63 Corvette to defeat another Maryland competitor, Vonnie Mills from Kennedyville.
In the finals of Super Street, Layton Sumpter, who calls Silver Spring , Md. , home, would drive his '68 Camaro one step away from victory before he fell in the final to William Nycz, a resident of Woodstown , N.J. In Saturday's action, Top Alcohol Dragster pilot and Old Tappan, N.J., resident Richard Bourke took the victory while in Top Alcohol Funny Car, Frank Manzo, of Morganville , N.J. , motored his '06 Monte Carlo all the way to the winner's circle.
