Jeg Goes Out In Round One

In the opening round Jeg Coughlin Jr faced off against Steve Johns. Lane choice went to Johns and he rolled into the preferred left lane.

The starting line advantage went to Coughlin by .067 seconds (.022 to .089). The hard charging yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order Chevy Cavalier was in the lead until just inches before the finish line stripe. The win went to Johns by .0006 seconds. Coughlin posted a run of 6.898 at 200.05 mph.

"We had too much wheel spin down low," explained Coughlin. "The car recovered, but we left a lot on the table early in the run and that hurt us on the big end. This was a classic side-by-side Pro Stock race and that's what the fans pay to come and see. We ran a special paint scheme this weekend to help promote awareness for cancer research. Although we didn't win the race, hopefully our efforts helped save lives this weekend and that makes us feel good. We will head back to the shop and regroup before heading to Englishtown, NJ next weekend."

Round #1: S. Johns 6.831 at 202.42 mph, defeated J. Coughlin 6.898 at 200.05 mph.

POINTS:

Jeg earned 31 points at the NHRA Pontiac Excitement Nationals this weekend. He will enter the 11th race of 2004 NHRA season in the No. 6 position in the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock championship. The 33-year old second-generation driver has a total of 495 points with 13 races remaining. The next event is the NHRA K&N Filters Nationals in Englishtown, NJ June 17-20th.
