Anderson holds onto No. 1 in points after being turned back in quarterfinals

MORRISON, Colo. (July 15, 2007) -- During eliminations today for the 28th annual NHRA Mopar Mile-High Nationals, current NHRA POWERade Pro Stock point leader Greg Anderson was turned back in the second round by Allen Johnson, who had qualified in the No. 1 position.

In the opening round, Anderson gave away a tad at the green light -- five thousandths of a second to be exact -- but then said bye-bye to Justin Humphreys, taking the win light in his KB Racing-owned, Summit Racing Equipment-backed Pontiac GTO in 7.122 seconds. Humphreys followed with a 7.145-second pass.

Both Anderson and Johnson left together as the green light started their second round match up. They stayed glued together as the pair made their way down the Brainerd Speedway quarter-mile. At the finish line, AJ nipped Anderson's Summit Racing Pontiac by 95 ten thousandths of a second (several feet).

Reaction time for Anderson was .058 seconds, elapsed time was 7.112 seconds. For Allen, his reaction time was .059 seconds and he recorded an E.T. of 7.102 seconds.

"We didn't qualifying as well as we would have liked but today (Sunday) we had this Summit Pontiac headed in the right direction, but we ran out of time to continue getting the car better. In hindsight it looks like we needed to be out here testing and it cost us. A valuable lesson learned. We'll remember that for next year but for now we'll put this one in the books and move on to Seattle," said Anderson following the second round setback.

After 13 events, Anderson leads the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock standings with 1,081 points, which also puts him in the lead for the first segment (first 17 races) of the Countdown to the Championship (23 races).
