RACING LEGEND KENNY BERNSTEIN COMPLETES LICENSING PASSES AT FIREBIRD RACEWAY
February 1, 2007(Phoenix, AZ) -- Racing Legend Kenny Bernstein made his final licensing pass in his Monster Energy drink funny car with a 296.89 mph run in 5.94 seconds of the quarter mile track at Firebird Raceway to be licensed for the NHRA 2007 upcoming season.
Today Bernstein completed his final passes at Firebird Raceway to be licensed as a funny car driver. "It wasn't pretty but it worked," Bernstein said of the license qualifying pass. "We are just tickled it is over with and now we can go to work on our regular program. I haven't slept in a week."
Sponsored by Monster Energy Drink, Bernstein announced his return to professional drag racing late last year. Bernstein has earned top honors in both funny car and top fuel. "Monster wanted a funny car," Bernstein said of the decision to return to racing in a funny car.
Licensing requires a driver to make two runs down the track in 5.50 seconds or faster and two runs at 250 mph or faster. Bernstein had completed all the other requirements in previous runs.
Bernstein will return to Firebird Raceway February 23-25, 2007 for the NHRA Checker Schuck's Kragen Nationals.
