JOLIET, Ill. (Oct. 1, 2004) - Ron Capps drove his green Skoal RacingSM Chevy Monte Carlo to the 10th qualifying spot on Friday at Route 66 Raceway after the 14-time NHRA winner recorded a pass of 4.905 seconds at 316.38 mph.
Capps, one of 13 drivers to have earned victories in both the Top Fuel and Funny Car categories, recorded the 4.905, 316.38 effort on Friday's opening run at the Illinois race track. Friday's second qualifying session was canceled after rain showers carried on throughout the evening.
"The guys did a great job right out of the trailer," Capps said. "That's exactly what we tried to run. We're near the front, so a lot of the other teams were able to tune and make changes from what we did."
The veteran driver eyes a spot on the top half of the Funny Car order when qualifying resumes with sessions scheduled for 1 and 4 p.m. (CT) Saturday at Route 66 Raceway.
