READING, Pa. - It could almost be said that NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Marc White is like a kid waiting on Christmas going into this weekend's Lucas Oil Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pa. Nearly every year, the Maple Grove racing surface produces record numbers, which is just what White and the Etterman Racing Team have been waiting for.
White, from Glendale Heights, Ill., feels that the team found something at their last outing over a month ago at the Rugged Liner Nationals in Brainerd, Minn. Armed with their 'new' ammunition, White is eager to run the car on a track that is notorious for being able to handle whatever you can throw at it.
"We definitely are excited to be going back to Maple Grove," said White. "You can really fly up there. We always run well up there. The air is usually awesome and the track is always great. I think we found something big up in Brainerd, and I'm itching to try it in Reading."
White, who is currently seventh nationally, hopes to make a strong showing to improve his points standing as well.
"We usually don't focus on points too much," stated White. "But our goal at the beginning of the year was to finish in the top 5. So, if we can finish the year out strong, that's certainly in reach, especially if we can get this 'new' trick to work."
Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, followed by one more session Saturday morning. Eliminations will begin with round one on Saturday and conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
