WJ Powers to the Third Position on Friday in Memphis
Warren Johnson and the GM Performance Parts Pontiac GXP Racing team were among those top performers during the opening day of qualifying at the O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals, with their 6.610-second, 208.88 mph pass in the evening session placing them third among the 20 cars attempting to qualify. Despite this strong showing, The Professor felt there was still room for improvement and set his sights on improving his standing during one of Saturday's two sessions.
"Our GM Performance Parts GXP made a decent run tonight, but I believe we left a little on the table, maybe a hundredth or two. Keep in mind this is only our second race with this tuning approach, and it's already starting to bear some fruit. It's giving us some consistent feedback, which will allow us to go back after the rest of the tune-up, such as the clutch, gearing and chassis. Hopefully we're on to something, and based on what I see from tonight's run, I'm confident we can pick up in the morning. We're just going to keep pecking at it."
