CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT CECIL COUNTRY
RISING SUN, Md. -- In the final results from Cecil County Dragway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Northeast Shootout Anthony Bertozzi captured his second win of the year in Comp Eliminator. The Ashland, Va., resident drove his '34 Chevy to victory over last year's event winner Frank Aragona of Freehold, N.J.
Maryland racer and defending division champion Lee Zane of Perry Hall, grabbed the win in Stock Eliminator over Jack Matyas of Bethlehem, Pa., and Hollis Colleasure made his trip from San Dimas, Calif., well worth it when he defeated John Stover of Jersey Shore, Pa., in the final of Super Gas.
A pair of New Jersey racers made trips to the winner's circle with Jeff Tripp of Jackson, N.J., winning over Byron Worner of Duncannon, Pa., in Super Stock and John Martin of Cream Ridge, N.J., out ran Michael Daymude of Hedgesville, W.V., in the Super Comp class.
Rounding out the winners was Marc Caruso of Canandaigua, N.Y., in his '70 Chevelle beating fellow New York racer Scott Steiner in his '72 Chevelle.
In Saturday's action Frank Manzo of Morganville, N.J., scored his 12th Top Alcohol Funny Car win at Cecil County Dragway dating back to 1992 when he beat John Anderkia. And Dan Mercier won in Top Alcohol Dragster out of Canada holding off defending NHRA Northeast Division Champion John Finke.
Northeast Division racers head to Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J., for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, September 5-7.
