Starting Eighth, KJ Will Go Hunting on Sunday in Norwalk

On the strength of 6.673-second, 206.57 mph run made on Friday evening, Kurt Johnson qualified his ACDelco Cobalt in the eighth position for Sunday's final eliminations of the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals. Although Saturday's warmer temperatures precluded any real changes among the naturally aspirated Pro Stock cars, KJ used his final two attempts to fine-tune his set-up for race day, working to find the proper balance to maximize his race car's performance.

"We know our ACDelco Cobalt can run quicker and faster, but we have yet to come up with that perfect combination. We've been on both sides of the spectrum, where we were really good in low gear, but slow the rest of the way, or where it's been fast in the back half but not the first sixty feet. Therefore, we're still hunting to find that perfect balance. Fortunately, what we learned on our last run should help us make it better. After all, we still have bullets in the cabinet, so we'll keep pumping them in the gun, going after the big game.

"We'll start by dancing with Jeggie (Coughlin) in the first round. He has a good car, so we'll need to be on our game to get by him. Fortunately, we have lane choice, and although it will probably be less of a factor tomorrow than it has been all season, it will still be good to be able to pick which side of the track we race on after the fuel cars are done with it. After that, it's just a matter of letting the clutch out first, and doing what we can to get to the finish line first."
