Phoenix: Goodyear Racing final report

NHRA: DIXON, SCHUMACHER RACING HISTORY, EACH OTHER

CHANDLER, Ariz. (Feb. 26, 2008) -- Larry Dixon and Tony Schumacher are racing head to head in the National Hot Rod Association's record book.

Dixon's victory in the Top Fuel final of the Checker, Schucks, Kragen Nationals at Firebird International Raceway gave him 42 national event victories. Schumacher, the winner of the 2008 season opener at Pomona, also has 42 wins. That total is the second best in NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Top Fuel history and the ninth best overall in the history of the sanctioning body.

And all of their wins have come on Goodyear tires.

Goodyear has eight wins in national competition this season. Jack Beckman won the Funny Car final at Phoenix and V. Gaines won in Pro Stock at Firebird.

Dixon beat David Grubnic in the Firebird final. Dixon's 4.532-second pass in the final was his quickest of the weekend. He was clocked at 327.19 mph.

Beckman's victory came over Robert Hight. It was Beckman's fourth career victory.

Gaines beat former Pro Stock champ Jason Line in the final and the key was the starting line. Gaines' reaction time was .014 of a second.
