Rain and Cold Force Cancellation of Friday Qualifying in Phoenix
The first day of qualifying at the Checker Schuck's Kragen Nationals fell victim to Mother Nature, as constant showers at Firebird Raceway on Friday forced NHRA officials to cancel both scheduled sessions. With qualifying set to get underway at noon on Saturday, ACDelco Cobalt race Kurt Johnson was simply looked forward to getting on the track.
"It was a long and uneventful day to say the least, but I really feel sorry for the fans who came out to the track today. Hopefully we can put on a great show for them tomorrow -- at least the weather is supposed to cooperate for the rest of the weekend.
"Our ACDelco Cobalt is ready to go, and the track really looks good, so things should be fine tomorrow. We may have to make a couple minor changes to the clutch, gear ratio and wheelie bars, but I think we're pretty close. With only two runs to get in the field, you'll have to be spot on just to get in, but we should be in good shape."
