Meyer Ousted In Houston, Second Round
Baytown, Texas: Randy Meyer was the second best Top Alcohol Dragster Sunday at the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals. His 5.277 second pass against event winner Bill Reichert in round two was the best time next to Reichert's string of runs.
Through lengthy rain delays qualifying was eventually abbreviated to two sessions. Meyer and his team were in the number nine position with a 5.495, but making steady progress.
Meyer was quicker than his qualifying time in round one in his win over Shawn Langdon. His 5.319 at 252.47 mph was better than Langdon's 5.461. In round two he had given up lane choice to Reichert in a rematch of the finals at Gainesville, Fla.
Randy was quicker off the line and led the race at each increment down the course. Meyer's 5.277 at 259.71 was just six feet behind Reichert's 5.217 at 268.81 at the finish line. The margin of victory was 0.0146.
"We really could have used another pass in qualifying," said Meyer. "We were quicker each run and certain we'd have been even better in the second round."
Meyer has moved into eighth place in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series national points. Randy Meyer Racing will travel back to Texas April 13-15 for the LODRS Division 4 race at Texas Motorplex in Dallas.
